Installing HotA on Android

There are two well-known methods for installing HotA on Android.
ExaGear Strategies offers more convenient controls but uses somewhat outdated system software.
Winlator has less convenient controls and a monochrome cursor in-game, but features up-to-date system software, resulting in more stable performance.

Installing ExaGear Strategies

Download ExaGear Strategies (APK file):

Install the app from the APK file.
Launch the app. It will display an error and close (caused by missing cache files that need to be installed).
Download the app cache:

Extract the downloaded archive and place the main.40.com.eltechs.es.obb file in the folder:
/storage/emulated/0/Android/obb/com.eltechs.es.
Launch ExaGear Strategies again. The necessary cache will now unpack, and required folders will be created on the device. If an error appears, delete the main.40.com.eltechs.es.obb file in /storage/emulated/0/Android/obb/com.eltechs.es, then repeat step 5 using an alternate file manager (e.g., Total Commander).
Place the game folder (the game must be pre-installed/extracted on another device) into:
/storage/emulated/0/ExaGear.
Launch ExaGear Strategies and verify that game launch files appear.
Open the launch settings menu in ExaGear Strategies and configure screen, color, language, and input settings. For Heroes, recommended settings:
- Color depth: 16bpp
- Language format: ru_RU.UTF-8
- Custom Helium input scheme (specifically created for Heroes)
- Adjust screen resolution to match your device (avoid black borders). You may use the same resolution as in Heroes‘ in-game settings
Press the green arrow button to launch the game.

Installing Winlator

Download and install the latest version of Winlator (APK file):

Open the APK file to install the app (by default, the system blocks installations from unknown sources — enable permission in Security Settings).
Open Winlator.
Press the + button to create a container.
Configure screen resolution:
- For the enhanced HD mod interface, vertical resolution should be at least 664 pixels. On devices with small screens (smartphones), avoid setting it too high, or game elements will become too small.
- Adjust horizontal resolution to leave empty space on the edges for hotkey areas.
Select Graphics Driver:
- For Snapdragon processors — Turnip.
- For MediaTek/Exynos — VirGL.
Save the container settings.
Place the game folder in the Downloads directory (the game must be pre-installed on another device). This folder corresponds to the D: drive in Winlator.
Alternatively, run the game installer within the emulated Windows.
After installation:
- Open the HotA folder in the emulated Windows.
- Locate h3hota HD.exe or HD_Launcher.exe.
- Open the context menu (long-press with one finger, then quickly tap with another finger).
- Select Create Shortcut. The shortcut will appear on the desktop and in Winlator Main Menu → Shortcuts.
Launch the game from the created shortcut.

Additional Notes

Winlator includes a preconfigured control scheme, but it’s not ideal for Heroes.

To install: Open Winlator Main Menu (top-left) → Input Controls → Import Profile → select the downloaded profile.
Enabling Move cursor to touchpoint (Main Menu → Settings) simplifies cursor control on the map but complicates it during battles.
To open the Winlator Main Menu inside Windows or during gameplay, simultaneously tap the screen with four fingers.
